Yep. It’s illegal to pump your own gas in Oregon.
It’s not illegal on LI, but I’ve pumped gas 3 times in my life. Each with disastrous results.
I’m from NJ and I’ve never pumped my own gas. The one time I did fill up out of state, I asked a local to do it for me. I thought the reasoning was to stimulate the economy by creating jobs (gas station attendants). But I’m not 100% sure.
The reasoning, seriously, is that it’s a public health hazard to let people do it themselves. Apparently a NON-PROFESSIONAL GASOLINE PUMPER once spilled some gas while trying to do it himself and it got into the water table or something. Signed, Grew Up In NJ, Mostly.
