Frothy Paradise

Ok, could we all please stop talking about the following:

1. Miss California’s views on gay marriage.

2. The ramifications of her views, e.g., whether they kept her from winning a beauty pageant, or whether they make her popular or unpopular with a bunch of people who make a living by operating a beauty pageant.

3. Whether it’s acceptable that Miss California, a contestant in a beauty pageant (i.e., an entity that exists largely, if not solely, for the purpose of judging women on their physical appearance) posed nude (i.e., with her top off and her back to the camera, as opposed to, say, in a swimsuit).

4. What the unspeakably vile Donald Trump thinks about Miss California’s nude photographs.

Now maybe if we’d like to discuss something, we can resume with the following:

Why the fuck, in 2009, we still have “Miss USA” or ”Miss America” contests at all and why, even worse, anyone dignifies the fucking things by paying the slightest bit of attention to them, much less having large chunks of news shows dedicated to what the partcipants and promoters think about current events or anything else. I mean, come on.

And yes, I know it’s obvious at this point to trash beauty contests. But I’m sure you’ll forgive me for being a wee bit miffed that we can’t even manage some token gesture suggesting that we care one way or the other if women are anything other than blow-up dolls.
