I can’t tell you how odious it is to listen to Imus’s gravelly grumble followed by the abrasive sneer of a soundbite from Mark Levin, who sounds like Roy Cohn crossed with medieval pestilence as he excoriates Harry Reid as “Tokyo Rose in pinstripes” or rails about the borderline treason of Dick Durbin: “When was the last time Durbin stood up against America’s enemies and protected our security against those who would slaughter us? There wasn’t a last time because there hasn’t been a first time!” Or an in-house promo featuring Sean Hannity shilling for Giuliani, praising him for his reticence in refusing to discuss the particulars of his faith (as if a thrice-married Catholic would ever be avid to discuss the fine points of doctrine), or Rush Limbaugh, intonating like the great oracle Oz.
