ABC News Edited Out Key Parts of Sarah Palin Interview | NewsBusters.org →
I stand by my prior statement that Palin’s performance was awful, but I don’t think any reasonable person could review this interview transcript and conclude that ABC did not edit the interview in an egregious and unfair manner. The linked-to transcripts are inaccurate. I just read the transcripts of the interview that aired online where Gibson quotes Palin when she said that U.S. troops are on “a task that is from God,” and about “war [being] hell,” and on preemptive strikes (i.e. her support of the Bush Doctrine). That wasn’t left out.
If anything, I think the parts of the transcripts that were allegedly left out are even more damning and make Palin look ignorant on the language of the Constitution, particularly when it comes to the division of powers vis-a-vis war, and extremely ready and determined to make the U.S. into a militaristic empire, which will certainly not strengthen our ties with our NATO allies. Also, what does a “victory” in Iraq actually look like? That would have been a good question for Gibson to follow up with, among others, like, how can someone who is so determinedly pro-life vehemently support the possession of semi-automatic rifles by everyday citizens?
